Nathanel's MRCP's Examination at UH

You should be proud! Because today, Nathanael was one of the participants in the MRCP UK 2006 Examination at the Universiti Hospital (UH).

MRCP UK stands for the Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom.
The three Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom share a common
membership examination in general medicine: this is the examination for the
Diploma of Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom.
Successful candidates are eligible to apply for the award of the MRCP(UK)
Diploma. To find out more abour MRCP, click here

Nathanael's medical case/situation was given to three medical officers, which if they pass, will be our future Pediatrician. :) Tiff, Nathanael and Tiff's fifth aunt was at UH the most of today, waiting and being interviewed.

Tiff was interviewed three times by the three medical officers when they were trying to diagnose Nathanael's medical case based on the questions and some basic facts on Nathanael's condition.

The good part is that Nathanael now owns a MRCP UK Certificate of Merit for being a participant in this examination oral case study. Coool huh?

The picture above was taken by Tiff, when Nathanael was waiting in UH. See how happy and how straight he is sitting up! Praise God! :)

Where are U ticklish? Here? .... tickle ...... tickle

Its another great step forward for Nathanael when we tickle him and he laughs and laughs.

Previously we would tickle him, and that would not bring about a respond.

Only recently when we tickle his feet, he will feel the tickling and bring up his feet and even sometimes complaining by whining ... (and our interpretation of that whine is "don't kacau my legs lah .... stop it .. stop it")

So it was to our delight and we believe to Nathanael's delight when a few nights ago, mum was playing with him before he slept and all of a sudden when Tiff tickled his sides, he laughed, and she tickled again, and he laughed more and squirmed away. And we started a tickling session which lasted about 10 minutes.

Since then each night we would tickle him and play with him before hid bed time prayers and sleeping. We are thankful to see daily step by step improvements in his development.

Check out this video of mummy tickling Nathanael last nite.

Tiff is 22 Weeks OR 5 Months 2 Weeks Pregnant

Update from inside the Womb

The baby now weighs almost one pound / 430 grams, measures nearly 11 inches/ just over 27 centimetres long from crown to heel.

And is proportioned like a newborn, albeit a thinner version since her baby fat hasn't yet developed.

Although she's getting heavier every day, her skin still appears wrinkled because she needs to gain more weight.

The lips are distinct and the eyes are formed, though the iris (the coloured part of the eye) still lacks pigment.

The pancreas, essential in the production of hormones, is developing steadily.

Can't Touch This!

Our current focus on Nathanael is that he will learn to use his HANDS to touch, feel, move, and to use his hands as what God has created the hands for.

One of our toughest struggle is that he doesn't like anyone touching or holding his hands. For those of u who visit him or play with him in church will realize that as soon as u try and hold his hand for a hand shake or high five, he will pull it away with a lot of determination.

The photo above was taken when Nathanael was at his Bridges Schoool - Early Intervention Program (EIP). Teacher Dolly was trying to get him to hold different textures of objects from soft, to squiggly to even colored ice and more. But he absolutely refuse, ... its like "U Can't Touch My Hands" .... "U can't Hold My Hands" .... [can imagine in the background .... MC Hammer in his super big pants singing ... "Can't Touch This" .... ] and Nathanael was crying the whole 50 minutes we were there. (bluff cry wan ... cos when i picked him up later, he smiled!)

Anyway .. pray along with us, as start working on his hands so that Nathanael can start learning to use them as how we use ours. Would love to see him play the Piano one day... yes godma willl teach him his piano yah? OR mebbe the saxophone.. since i can't play one! :)

The Midnight Rides

The last week has been pretty tiring for us. Nathanael has this little bad habit of getting up in the weeeeeeeeee weeeeeeeeee hours of the morning and has this uncanny ability to be extremely AWAKE, whilst the whole house is sleeping.

Or alternatively he would sleep 30 mins or 1 hour during the day (which is insufficient) and when it comes to 10ish / 11ish PM, he will start crying. Our deduction is that he is trying to sleep, but is so sleepy till he can't sleep (kapish?).

Well anyway .... we discovered through one of our early journeys in the car, Nathanael loves to ride in cars and car rides gives him this nice and comfy feeling and he can easily fall asleep in it.

So guess what we've been doing the last week. Each time when he wakes up (like at 11.45pm after sleeping for 20 mins and tossin' and turnin') we will have a hard time to put him back to sleep.

So the next best resort is to go for "The Midnight Ride".

We will basically exit the Condo and head towards 1 Utama, turn off into the LDP and drive up the Ramp on to Penchala Link .. and make a U-Turn and come back towards PJ, and exit off the Mutiara Damansara road and take the back road home. Hehehe ....

Yups .. thats about 8 -10KM .... but at least it works and he goes off into a deep sleep.

The above pic is Nathanael in his pee jays sleeping in the car seat after
one of the Midnight Rides.

Then after that we just carry him up to his bed and. .. Thank U Jesus .. he sleeps thru the nite!

Seee lah ... how much we love Nathanael ... The Midnight Rides are our special secret weapon. We were just discussing the other day ... we will not make these Midnight Rides a habit.... othewrise everyday also have to drive him out! :)

Tiff is 20 Weeks Pregnant / 5 Months Pregnant already!

Wow .... time has really passed fast. Tiffany is already 5 months pregnant. Tiff says that there are more movement in the womb when the baby tends to move alot. Our focus during this pregnancy has been a lot on Nathanael .... so the pregnancy time seem to be whizzing past. Cos there's so many changes in Nathanael's daily preparation ... from the new diet to his improvements. So continue to keep the baby and Tiff in prayer.

Update from inside the Womb

Your baby measures about 6.5 inches/ 16.5 centimetres from crown to rump and is steadily gaining weight.

A whitish coat of a slick, fatty substance called vernix caseosa begins to cover your baby and protects the skin during its long immersion in amniotic fluid. It also eases delivery.

The baby's swallowing more this week, good practice for the digestive system. After your baby takes in amniotic fluid, his body absorbs the water in the liquid and moves the rest into the large bowel.

Nathanael can now sit on his own

We are seeing amazing development in Nathanael. Over the weekend Nathanael sat on his own, in a baby chair, a feat that he could not do weeks or months before. We thank God that his muscle tone on his upper torso has strengthened and that he can sit on his own in his own chair. :)

Praise GOD!

Hey there... can you bring the Dim Sum over to this table.

Hehehehehe ... Nathanael giggles a lot nowadays. In fact his giggles and laughter has changed a lot. We're so glad that he's such a happy and joyful boy. He was smiling and laughing when we caught him in this picture.

Hehee .. here's another shot of him smiling away.

Baby is 19 weeks old -- We're half way there !!!

Update from inside the Womb

The fetus measures around 6 inches/ 15 centimetres long from crown to rump and weighs about 9 ounces/ 240 grams.

She has started to swallow amniotic fluid, and her kidneys continue to make urine. Hair on the scalp is sprouting.

Sensory development reaches its peak this week. The nerve cells serving each of the senses -- taste, smell, hearing, seeing, and touch -- are now developing in their specialised areas of the brain.

Nerve cell production slows down as existing nerve cells grow larger and make more complex connections.

If the fetus is a baby girl, she already has roughly six million eggs in her ovaries. By the time she's born, she'll have about one million.

Nathanael's Fits Diary - September Update

Here are some updates to Nathanael's seizures / fits. We have just added the September & October graphs below (its also updated in the main Fits Diary page)

We are glad to share with all of you that Nathanael's seizures or fits have decreased.

  • In the month of May, June & July - Nathanael averaged about 25 fits per day.
  • But in the month of August - Nathanael's fits increased, averaging about 35 per day
  • And most recently in September - Nathanael's fits decreased significantly to about 14 per day
  • And now in October - Nathanael is on the Ketogenic Diet, and we see that he's only averaging 1 to 2 seizures a day! Praise GOD!!!!
  • The Table below the graphs [Fits Diary Summary] shows a summary of all Nathanael's fits by day and month and with a total count of his fits since 2005 to current. If the picture below is too small. Click here - Fits Diary 2006 Summary.

The Ketogenic Diet has helped tremendously in the decrease of Nathanael's seizures. But please bear in mind that these seizures are what we describe as physical manifestations. Those that we see or notice and that we count and track in his Fits Diary. But there are seizures which can be happening in the brain that do not result in a physical manifestation. And these can only be tracked by using an EEG (ElectroEncephaloGram).

We must also bring to your attention, that despite the reduce of Nathanael's seizures. We noticed that his facial twitching (which we believe is a manifestation of a seizure too) has not reduced. These facial twitching normally come about when he wakes from a sleep. But nowadays we see it happening through out the day at random.

So as the graphs below indicates a drop in his typical manifestation of seizures, we urge you to continue to pray along with us that all forms of Seizures must stop; including the Facial Twitching and those that occur in the brain. We are seeing positive signs of improvements and we ask that you keep praying along with Nathanael that he would be totally Seizure Free!

Nathanael's Five Days of Fever

Poor Nathanael. After coming out of HKL for the Ketogenic Diet. On the final night in HKL, his body felt warm.

When we reported it to the doctors the next day, they said he most probably caught an infection, and gave us some paracetamol.

Unfortunately, the fever persisted despite us giving him Paracetamol every 4 hourly.

The fever kept going on at about 37 and 38 degrees celcius for the five days continuous. (26 Sep to 30 Sep)

Meanwhile, on Thursday we asked Dr Yi-Ki to help get us some Suppository (which is the Paracetamol but goes thru the rectum), and she gave us some which we administered to Nathanael on Friday night. [Normally when a Suppository is given, most often the fever would come down, but again that didnt work on Nathanael]

By the fifth day, we were concerned and whilst I was at work on Sat, Tiff and her parents brought Nathanael to his pediatrician, Datin Dr Vasantha at Damansara Specialist Centre.
She's one cool doctor who really cares for Nathanael.

Anyway they took some blood tests and urine tests. And asked us to call her on Sunday to see how is the progress of his fever. His blood test showed Negative for Dengue (that's one of the initial tests that one takes when you have a few days of fever continually), and in the report it also showed that his Blood Platelet count & White Blood Cell Count was low.

On Saturday just 2 mins before Sunita took over the Saturday Service for pre service prayer. I asked the Worship Team to remember Nathanael in prayer, and to pray that his fever of five days to come down. Thank you all for praying along.

Cos on Sunday morning at 1am. His fever just came down. And it has been down since then! Praise God for His touch on Nathanael's life.

Dr Vasantha was cool. Since Nathanael's fever came down, we thot we shoudln't kacau (disturb) Dr Vasantha on a Sunday. But guess what? She called to find out his progress! That's one really Kind & Caring doctor. So we updated her that Nathanael was doing much better.
[Thankfully, his fever decreased, otherwise, Nathanael would have to go to Hospital again to do further tests on the Fever... and that was one thing we didn't want to see happen].

We thank you all for praying for Nathanael. And we Praise GOD that He moves mountains, and brought the fever down! YAY!!!

We also found out that both Elijah & Noah (Nathanael's cousins) were also not feeling well these few days. And that they were also having fever. Tawnya gave some good suggestions. That's why on the pic above, you see a preety much half naked Nathanael on some water pillow, which is cool, and we had a wet towel on his back, to help regulate the temperature. :)
Oh yes the cool HeadBand... well that was to hold his Fever Patch up, he keeps pulling off the Fever Patches that we put on his forehead. So the HeadBand (Which is a cap) was used to hold it in place! :)

p/s Some of you were asking if the fever was something to do with the Ketogenic Diet. The answer is no. The fever came because Nathanael most probably got a viral infection while he was in the Hospital. Perhaps he caught it from me.... cos poor Nathanael is coughing slightly now. So keep praying for him.
